Spewsletter 1.1
Life's Been Lifing.
Grief, legacy, books, beautiful objects and civilized day drinking.
The greatest legacy we can leave each other is what we make possible in each other’s lives.
It has been quite some time since I last wrote an actual Spewsletter.
The past few months have been among the most significant of my life. In May, my brother and I said goodbye to our Mom, Erma.
For those of you who knew her, you will understand why this has felt like the closing of an era. She was not only my mother, but one of my closest friends, a steady source of encouragement (and not just for me), practical advice, occasional financial rescue, and unwavering belief in my ability to find my own path through the world.
Years ago, when I set off to travel the world with little more than curiosity, her international contacts helped me start that journey. Without her support, there would have been no experiences to record, no journals to fill, and ultimately no Gallivant. It is therefore no coincidence that I dedicated the book to her. In many ways, she helped write it simply by giving me the freedom to leave home and discover the world.
Her passing has been difficult, but it has also been a reminder that the greatest legacy we can leave each other is what we make possible in each other's lives.
Anyway… life, as it always does, continues to unfold.
People Are Still Reading Books
Recently I had the pleasure of participating in the Book Fairy Festival and The Book Hive Sips and Stories event, where I met readers, writers and curious people who reminded me why I finally decided to publish Gallivant. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to chat, share stories or pick up a copy. Encouraging to see that reading is not dead.
Over the coming weeks there are a few more things on the horizon.
Bear Bangarang
At the end of August, my family and I will be opening the doors of our home for Bangarang & Kutchuments: Artifacts of a Fabulous Life, a carefully curated estate sale celebrating a lifetime of collecting beautiful, unusual and meaningful things. There will be furniture, artwork, vinyl records, crystal, jewelry and countless small treasures, each with its own story. It feels like the most fitting way to allow these objects to continue their journeys in new homes.

Excuses for day drinking
On a lighter note, I've recently discovered one of Kingston's most sensible happenings: a morning house music party. Breakfast, coffee (or perhaps a mimosa), good music, dancing. Not a big production. Just a vibe. Wrapping up by mid day, then off to get groceries before a late Saturday lunch. It's a throwback to the early days of house music (so civilized), and proof that debauchery doesn't need to arrive after sunset or throw off your whole weekend.
If you haven't experienced Wake & Bass mornings, I highly recommend them.
Café Blue also has a thing.

I hope this spewsletter becomes a place where I can occasionally share what I'm creating, what I'm learning, where I'm going and the curiosities I stumble across along the way.
